Story Of Spartacus

Spartacus was a Thracian Gladiator and a slave. Spartacus was the leader of a slave army about 90,000 to 120,000 people strong,The slave uprising war against the Roman Republic. Spartacus may have served in the Roman army but he was captured then sold into slavery. In 73 BC, he escaped from a gladiatorial training school in Capua with 70 others and more runaway slaves joined them later on. He then trained the others the Rudimentary knowledge for combat. He was believed to be the leader of the gladiators, along with two gauls, Crixus and Oenamus. Spartacus advocated crossing the Alps to put distance between the army and Rome and find freedom. Crixus then took an army of 30,000 to defeat Rome to gain more slave support to fill their ranks. Crixus was defeated and killed in the attempt. Spartacus's army won several battles over their attempt for freedom. Upon changing his original destination of crossing the alps, the army had turned south upsetting Rome. Rome sent Marcus Crassus, a Roman military force commander to defeat the rebellious gladiator. Eventually, Spartacus and his army were defeated and Spartacus killed. Many of his faithful followers were crucified as a warning to all other slaves. Spartacus remains an inspiration for oppressed people throughout the world.
